About The Bear Snacks

I decided to create The Bear Snacks because I wanted to create something special that I was passionate about by myself and from scratch. And why not a blog…?

So who is behind The Bear Snacks?

I am a Spaniard in my early thirties living in New York City. During my life, I have Iived in Spain, France, and the U.S. Actually, I moved to NYC 2.5 years ago. For the past 8 years, I have worked in consulting and I actually enjoy it a lot. However what I am most passionate about is what I can do in my free time. That is mainly traveling and being in the outdoors hiking.

Another thing I really love is diving. My perfect destination is one where I can hike and dive and I guess some great food is a huge plus too.

I have traveled to nearly 50 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, North, Central, and South America. I can speak Spanish, English, and French, I can also speak some Italian, understand Portuguese and I have been learning German for nearly 2 years now. So I guess I should also say that I am somewhat passionate about languages.

So why The Bear Snacks?

Once upon a time (some weeks ago actually…) I traveled to Grand Teton National Park. I was completely astonished by nature, the wildlife, the vegetation, etc. On my first day, we decided to do one of the most famous trails, the Lake Solitude Trail. This trail was had some of the best views of the Tetons you can get and is simply amazing! On top of that, I got to see Elks, marmots, ospreys, chipmunks, etc.

This is bear country! I was very excited to see a bear in the wild and, to be honest, I was also a bit scared. The thing is, after walking for 7 hours I had lost all hope of running into one. So 3 miles before the end of the trail, it was time for a quick rest. I sat down to finish my last snack, a peanut butter protein bar. Then, I heard a noise in the bushes right next to me and saw a dark shadow. It was clearly a large animal but I couldn’t think I would run into a black bear at such short distance. After some seconds, I realized it was a bear and it was literally 25 meters (about 80 feet) away from me.  I was able to sneak a quick pic of it and that made my whole day!

Why the Bear Snacks

That day, I decided I was going to start a blog. Some days later, after a lot of debate with my dear friends, I decided that the blog was going to be called The Bear Snacks. Definitely, a name that is easy to remember and means a lot to me.

So what is The Bear Snacks about?

Many people suggested I should focus The Bear Snacks in only one thing. However, this is a hobby for me and I enjoy loads of different things. I could say that the main focus of the blog is hiking and traveling, which is already quite broad. Notwithstanding, my philosophy is that I will post on anything for which the answer to the following question is yes: If I didn’t know about it or had tried it, would I find it interesting and useful?
